THE SEVEN STAGES OF CHILDHOOD FOR PORTRAITURE
The special milestones of your child's life can never be repeated. But they can be captured in portraits to tell the story of a his or her childhood... moving ever closer to adulthood. Someday your child will want to tell his or her children about their childhood. Imagine how wonderful it would be to have a beautiful album of priceless images of that childhood to pass down to future generations. Every child deserves a portrait history ~ it is never too late to start your child's album.
Showing how much you care...
Many psychologists who specialize in early childhood development believe that children who see their own images displayed throughout the home grow up with a feeling of well being and increased self-confidence. Portraits on display, make a child feel loved and valued. And when parents, siblings, and even grandparents appear in the portrait, the child is reminded of the meaningful and secure place he or she enjoys within the family.
What better way to demonstrate how you feel about your child than to decorate your home with portraits made at important milestones in his or her life?
Many client's tell us they regret not having more high quality portraits created as their children grew. Photographs snapped with a cell phone simply cannot compare with those created by a professional child photographer! Therefore, we have created a structured plan to help parents recognize the most important times to have their children photographed. These Seven Stages of Childhood mark the most significant changes along the path from infancy to your adulthood. When these milestones are recorded by a true professional child portrait photographer, they become a treasure to enjoy today and a valued family heirloom for the future.
Every child's portrait history should be carefully planned. Clothing, props and photographic style dramatically impact the artistic success of a portrait. Cynthia always recommends simply garments and props that represent your child's personality and interests.
The First Year..
At no time in your child's life will physical changes occur so rapidly. In the short span of 12 months, a tiny baby transforms into an active, robust and inquisitive toddler. When photographed with one or more parents or siblings, a portrait at this age will capture forever that fleeting time when family members are the center of your baby's intimate world. Whites and pastels are classic choices for infants while casual colorful play clothes work well for older babies. Of course, Cynthia frequently photographs newborns in their birthday suit!
Plan to visit your photographer at least three times during your baby's first year.
At Six Months . . . Babies can now sit up and take part in the world around them. They crave attention and delight in having an audience. Portraits at this age reveal chubby little arms, legs and bottoms!
At Nine Months . . . babies begin to strike out on their own crawling and pulling up on furniture. Still dependent on their parents, but starting to explore an ever-expanding world . They are well on the way to become an independent little person.
One year... you baby is quickly becoming a toddler and will soon be walking. They are active and robust. Of course a birthday portrait is a must at this time!
Two Years Old...
The toddler now responds to reason, humor, and action. Totally unpredictable, but always adorable... expect them to be loveable, shy, rowdy, or reserved as they begin to explore the world around them... here one minute and gone the next! They are very verbal and quite active at this age. Their personalities are quite apparent and Cynthia will work to show characteristics of their personality in the portraits.
The world of toddlers is filled with portrait opportunities that capture the mystery and fantasy that are so much a part of these joyful days of discovery and make-believe that fade so soon. Parents are encouraged to bring the child's favorite toys to the portrait session so these toys can be fondly remembered in the years to come as you gaze upon the portraits.
Age Four to Five Years...
One of the cutest, most endearing ages for boys and girls, they can now speak clearly and are very physically active. Searching for their place in the world, they have already developed personal interests, likes and dislikes. Their individuality of character and action should be portrayed before the baby teeth are lost and replaced by permanent ones... forever altering the endearing look of early childhood. Your child should assist with the selection of clothing and props to be used in their portrait session. The entire session will be viewed as a play date with Cynthia because she will encourage your child to laugh and play so as to capture natural expressions. While a six-month portrait captures the essence of babyhood, a wall portrait at this age will display forever the engaging charm of childhood!
Age Six to Eight...
During this period, the baby teeth are lost and the permanent teeth emerge to change their facial contours. As your child continues to grow toward adulthood, they attain more mature and inquiring facial expressions. Portraits at this age will reveal your child's positive self image and growing independence .
Ages Nine to Twelve...
The little person you knew so well is about to become more complex and independent. Peer acceptance had become increasingly important. Cynthia will capture your child's interests and sense of style in the portraits she creates.
Age Thirteen to Fifteen
The early teen years are a kind of dress rehearsal for adulthood. Your child's interests are now maturing as well as their bodies. Portraits during this time will capture your child during this time of rapid maturation and growth.
Your satisfaction is guaranteed!
